Sandblasted Mirrors
The Possibilities
With the use of digital technologies, it is possible to create custom sandblasted mirrors of any complexity, ranging anywhere from simple lines or borders, to complicated drawings and designs.
Any image, drawing, pattern, or shape can be sandblasted into the mirror to create a unique design. But for most practical and aesthetic purposes, our clients often choose to sandblast a rectangular or round shape on the circumference of the mirror. If you look at the pictures above and below, you will see the final result.
The Perfect Aesthetic
This can be clearly used in projects that require a little bit more design creativity. When we sandblast a mirror it can be used as a design option, but also as a way to bring more light to the room with the use of an LED backing. This is completely possible, as shown in the picture. The design options here are unlimited! Please contact for further information and design ideas.
The Process
When we are tasked with supplying a mirror with a sand-blasted design on the backing of the mirror, we have to use very precise and careful methods to get the best look. Here are the steps we take to achieve optimal results:
Preparation
- Design Planning: Confirming design or pattern with client.
- Cleaning: We thoroughly clean the mirror to ensure there’s no dust, oil, or debris that could interfere with the sandblasting.
Masking
- Protective Layer Application: To make sure we only sandblast the area needed, we add a masking film to the mirror’s surface to protect the areas that should remain clear. This creates a precise guide for the sandblasting process.
Setup
- Sandblasting Machine: Our sandblasting machine propels abrasive particles onto the mirror’s surface at high velocity.
Sandblasting
- The high-pressure stream of abrasives is blasted at the exposed areas of the mirror. The abrasive particles remove the reflective coating and glass surface layer, creating a frosted or etched effect.
Inspection and Cleaning
- Review of Design: We thoroughly inspect the mirror to ensure the etching is consistent and matches the design.
- Remove Masking: Then we peel away the masking film, revealing the untouched areas.
- Final Cleaning: As a final inspection, we wipe the mirror clean to remove any residue from the sandblasting process.
